DESCRIPTION

Inspired by the dance practices of flamenco bailaoras that perform for audiences in tablaos in Seville, Spain, Sobre madera works to create small spaces in a large theater. Wooden floorboards illuminate the sounds of dancers' footwork. As a collective, the dancers embody the rhythmic possibilities of Fandangos de Huelva, the song form that drives their movements. Below is a partial list of translated words and images that appear in the song’s verses: full moon, light, absence, thirst, candle, cry, land, weather, and joy.
